La Clusaz Radikal Mountain 2012

Yesterday Freestyle skiing World Cups, today a Freeride World Tour for women and a World Qualifier for men... Past master of organising international competitions, La Clusaz’s expertise has traced the development of snowsports and arrived at one place: freeriding, a sport whose elite participants are coming to the resort on the 14th and 15th of January. Amongst the many seeded competitors, one we can rely on being there is a certain Sébastien Michaud. Having come 2nd in the 2011 event, our ambassador is playing on his home turf; « Second isn’t bad for an old guy (Michaud was born in 1973) but I’m going for first place this year! » he told us.

The FWQ take place over 2 days, preceded this year by an Open competition. 100 riders each have one run to prove themselves to the six judges based at the bottom of the slope. The competitors are marked on their choice of route, fluidity, speed, and jumps. The top 50 qualify for the final which takes place on a different, more demanding slope.

The 3 days of the race are punctuated by a nighttime freestyle demonstration on the champ Giguet, transformed into a giant slopestyle and featuring experts in the discipline.

Sequence of events 2012

Sequence

La Clusaz Radikal Mountain competition lasts 2 days, with an open before:

• open on thursday, january 12th
• qualifiers on saturday, january 14th
• finals on sunday, january 15th

The scouting will happen on friday, january 13th.

In case of bad weather conditions, the competition may be postponed or even cancelled.

Every rider will be judged on one single run during qualifiers on a slope that will be allocated on friday evening. On qualifiers evening, riders who are qualified for the finals will be informed. The judgment for the finals will be the same as for the qualifiers, on harder slopes.

Selections

La Clusaz Radikal Mountain is not open to all riders.

Around 100 riders will be entered:

• Riders present in the Freeride World Ranking 2012
• Winners of the Open La Clusaz Radikal Mountain on january 12th

The riders not in FWR may compete in lower level competitions. List is on Freeride World Tour website.

Riders are separated in 4 categories:

• Ski* Men
• Ski* Women
• Snowboard Men
• Snowboard Women

* Telemark is grouped together with « Ski »

Informations

Informations will be sent as soon as the registration has been validated and will also be repeted during the briefing on friday 13th. Every rider has to be present and to follow the rules.
